Swiftwick Moderate Compression socks - $18.95 Shipped!

2/28: Large black socks are now in stock!

After years of having to order cheap compression socks from overseas, we brought these socks in for our friends working in bike shops and on hospital floors everywhere. The moderate compression reduces blood pooling in the feet and is recommended for those of us suffering from varicose veins as well. They also keep legs feeling fresh on long drives to races.

These socks are perfect for folks with larger calves, travelers or people who stand all day. Though we like a bit more compression for recovery, this 144-needle sock from Swiftwick provides excellent daily support and without feeling like they're driving your leg hairs back into their follicles.

Swiftwick Four Merino socks - $16.95 Shipped!

Made in the USA of a 60/30/10% wool/nylon/Lycra blend, the Four Merino's reassuringly dense, providing a fair bit of both support and cushion. They're channeled along the top of the foot, the cuff (taller than the Ones') is nice and snug, and they're soft. Mmm... S O F T.

From about October through March, we wear almost nothing else- which is about as high a praise as we've given anything. We also pull them out for any big rides where rain or long stretches of bike pushing are a possibility- pretty much any ride with Charlie. Our Merino Swiftwicks also get pressed into service for hiking trips. Are Swiftwick's Merino socks perfect? We can't think of anything to change. Their US manufacture and the company's environmentally sustainable operation make the price that much more reasonable. We really can't recommend them enough.

Swiftwick HIGH Compression socks - $22.45 Shipped!

A while back, Swiftwick sent us some 12in high-compression recovery socks to check out. Compression socks are very tight socks that are constructed to do three things:
  • Help return blood to the heart and prevent blood pooling in the feet
  • Reduce unnecessary movement that can cause calves to tire quickly
  • Speed recovery and reduce soreness
After several months using compression socks from a number of companies (ranging from $20-50 retail), the Swiftwick's 200-needle are our picks. They provide compression on par with $50 socks while being a bit thinner and lighter, making them more comfortable in moderate and warm temperatures. In the hours and days after hard training rides or races, they add a noticeable bit of bounce to tired legs.

Unfortunately, not everyone can get the 200-needle Twelves on, so Swiftwick have pulled them back in favor of their less-compressive 144-needle version. When we heard this, we snapped up their remaining stock (all black and medium) to sell here. If you're a rider with average or small calves who's sold on compression socks or would like to give them a go, here's your chance. A heck of a sock at a heck of a price. Made in the USA too...

Swiftwick Arm Warmers - $22.45 Shipped!

Could Swiftwick have made the perfect arm warmers? We certainly think so.

Available in three lengths (S/17in, M/19in, L/21in), Swiftwick's Arm Warmers are continuously knit of olefin. While the Nobel Prize-winning fabric floats and is the stuff Tyvek is made of, it also wicks moisture, is extremely durable and holds its shape well. When pulling them on, even he skinniest wider will notice their full-length snugness. It may be to impart some of the benefits of compression garments, or just keep them from slipping down, but Swiftwick's Arm Warmers are snug enough that your arms don't fall right back to your sides when wearing them. Though that snugness can feel a bit restrictive off the bike, while wearing them they feel quite normal. They're made right here in the USA and could be in your mailbox within a week!

Swiftwick One Merino socks - $13.95 Shipped!

Made in the USA of a 60/30/10% wool/nylon/Lycra blend, the One Merino's reassuringly dense, providing a fair bit of both support and cushion. They're channeled along the top of the foot, the cuff is nice and snug, and they're soft. Mmm... S O F T. After 15 months' near-constant use (and probably improper sock-drawer balling technique), they feel like new. We've worn them during August snowstorms, monsoon season deluges, running and hiking (sacrilege, we know), and have never been disappointed.

For even short rides in 90 degree temperatures, the Swiftwick's Merino series are probably too much sock. For shorter rides in the 70's, too, we might still reach for lighter socks. That said, if we're headed out for any ride- on road or off- that has any possibility of becoming epic (ie: featuring rain, walking or the shedding of big man tears), the One Merinos are where it's at.

Welcome to the bikefix Store!

It turns out that, in the course of riding and reviewing gear of all sorts, we have a fair bit of equipment turnover. The idea for the bikefix Store is to offer up bikefix merchandise, ex-test equipment and other cool stuff that you can't find anywhere else.

shipping:
As of now, we're up & running using Google Checkout, which should provide a safe & secure payment mechanism. It allows us to calculate shipping based on item weight and, as a result, you pay what we pay- we're not into charging you to put a t-shirt into a mailing bag or parts into a box.

Paid shipping within the United States will be via Priority Mail. Why? It's quick (2-3 days to most places), cheap and hey- the postman was coming to your house anyways. Items shipped "free" will come via 1st Class Mail. We usually get things out the door the next day, though please allow up to one week total for delivery (in case we have a hot date, night ride or similar). International shipping is pretty easy and will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis- send us an e-mail for a quote.

returns:
Here at bikefix, we want you to be as happy as possible with your purchase. We do our darndest to describe and photograph items accurately. If you ever have any questions or would like larger images, just e-mail us. Used (ex-test) items will be clearly described as such and any defects identified.

If you're unhappy with your purchase, just let us know! E-mail for an RA, send it back in the same condition it left here in and we'll refund you the item's purchase price. Easy.
